Funded Tech editorial standards

How Funded Tech stories are sourced, checked and labeled. These standards are effective on publication.

What we cover

AI, consumer tech, big tech companies, software and cybersecurity, and startups.

Accuracy and sourcing

  • Accuracy comes before speed. If a fact can't be verified against a source, it doesn't run.
  • We never invent quotes, sources, figures, statistics, dates, titles or events, and we never present an estimate as fact.
  • Every figure links to the primary document it came from. When a figure is our own calculation, we say so and show the inputs.
  • Quotes are word for word from a primary source, such as a release, filing, transcript or official video, and they link there.
  • Our preferred sources are company investor-relations releases and SEC filings, official engineering and product blogs, government agencies (such as the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the Federal Trade Commission), standards bodies, and peer-reviewed or arXiv papers. We label arXiv papers as not peer reviewed.
  • We don't rely on aggregators, anonymous posts, AI-generated summaries, forums or press-release metadata as a sole source. Social posts are used only from the verified official account of the party itself.
  • Breaking news and actively exploited security issues need two sources.
  • If our fetcher can't load a primary source, the story is held until it can.
  • We save a copy of every source with the time we fetched it, so a link that changes can still be checked.

Attribution and fairness

  • People are identified by full name and current title at first mention, checked against an official source. Companies are named with their ticker where relevant.
  • A company's own claims, such as benchmarks, rankings, "record" results or user counts, are written as its claims ("Google says…"), not as independent fact.
  • A story that makes allegations about a person or company includes their response, or says plainly that a response was requested or not available. These stories are always held for review.

Tech-specific rules

  • Product launches: we say what people can use today and what's only announced for later, and give prices exactly as published.
  • Benchmarks: we name the benchmark, give the score as the company reported it, and say it's self-reported unless an independent evaluator published it.
  • Security stories: we name the CVE IDs, affected versions and fixed versions from the vendor or CISA, and never publish exploit details beyond what the advisory says.
  • Startups and funding: we may link to Funded Weekly's own Form D data. When we do, that data follows the Form D product's no-names rule. Any startup people we name come from a company or press source, never from our Form D data.

Labels

Every story carries one label above the headline:

  • News: what happened, verified and attributed. No opinion words.
  • Analysis: context and implications based on sourced facts. Interpretation is marked as ours, and predictions are never stated as fact.
  • Opinion: a clearly identified viewpoint, bylined to the human who wrote it. AI may not publish Opinion on its own, and Opinion is always held for review.

Evolving stories also carry a "Developing" tag with a last-updated time in ET.

AI assistance

Funded Tech stories are drafted with AI assistance and checked against the linked sources under these editorial standards. This disclosure applies to every story we publish, so individual stories don't repeat it. The same note appears in the site Terms, and every page links here from "Editorial Standards" in the footer.

Human review

Every story must pass our sourcing, image-rights and style checks before it is published. Funded Weekly editors set these rules, review published stories, and fix errors under our corrections policy. Stories involving legal or sensitive matters are reviewed by an editor before publication.

Investment information

Nothing on Funded Tech is personal investment advice. Stories about earnings, stocks or markets carry this line at the end: "This article is for information only and is not investment advice. Funded Weekly does not recommend buying or selling any security. Do your own research or consult a licensed adviser."

Copyright and images

  • Our summaries are original writing. We don't republish articles, wire copy or paywalled material, and short quotes from primary sources are linked.
  • Images are original charts with the data source credited, original illustrations captioned "Illustration generated with AI" (never of real people, logos or trademarks), Unsplash photos with credit, or official press-kit images where the kit allows editorial use.
  • Takedown requests go to Funded Weekly editors within one business day and are logged.

Ads and sponsorship

Funded Weekly doesn't currently run ads or sponsored content. Any future sponsorship will be clearly labeled.
